Xaló, Barranc del Fondo del Baró
This magnificent, little-traveled route begins practically at the end of a long gravel path, accessible by car.
I suggest you park your car immediately at the starting point of the hike, as there is a small, useful parking area, likely for visiting the Cova del Mansano, which is located a few hundred meters from the starting point.
The hike begins with a gravel path that you will follow almost to its end. Then, you will take a right to find a small trail, poorly marked but perfectly passable. This will gradually lead you to the heights of Marnes. Along the way, you will come across several abandoned old structures.
After a few hundred meters of ascent, quite steep in some sections, you will reach the first houses in the Marnes area. This place of great beauty seems almost timeless. Nestled between the Serra de Ferrer and the Serra de Bernia, at several hundred meters above sea level and quite inaccessible by car, Marnes is a place where everything seems to move more slowly.
You will continue your journey along a gravel path. The elevation gain is quite moderate. You will take a right to reach a smaller trail, this time marked. You will stay on this path for a while, enjoying the magnificent views in all directions. Then, you will come across a partially abandoned construction wall, fortunately... Go around it to the right and continue your journey, enjoying views of the sea, the Serra de Olta, Bernia, and the Serra de Ferrer.
You will continue like this until you take a right to reach the Barranc del Fondo del Baró, a magnificent enclave between two mountains, on a very old trail steeped in history. This magnificent descent will bring you back close to the starting point.
Before finishing, you will discover old farmhouses and wells, typical of the region. You will return to the starting point via the same gravel path as at the beginning.
