Font del Lavador
The public washhouse of Parcent was built at a time when the houses in the town did not yet have running water, and it had to be carried in pitchers.
The women would go to the washhouse with clothes in esparto baskets. Some would hang the garments around the washhouse to dry a little, making the load lighter on the way back. In addition to being a place for washing, the washhouse served an important social function, becoming a meeting and chatting point for the women of the town.
With the installation of running water in homes, the use of the washhouse gradually declined. However, there are still people who use it, and the Town Hall takes care of its maintenance and cleaning.
The washhouse receives water from the "Font del Llavador," whose spring rises right at this spot. The water first flows into the drinking trough and then is used to irrigate the fields known as "les Hortes de la Font."
The restoration of the washhouse began in the 1990s, preserving this space as part of Parcent's historical and cultural heritage.
